Issue 35: What is violence for?
Now online

Dear Reader,

Issue 35—a special issue on the question “What is violence for?”—is
now online! Across this issue, the second we’ve ever fully devoted to a theme, novelists and critics, philosophers and photojournalists, activists and artists all reflect on how violence shapes our culture, our politics and our lives—and how to contextualize it within an everyday experience characterized increasingly by a sense of disembodiment, disorder and drift.

The website’s paywall allows you to read any two articles a month from our archive, but only subscribers will be able to read the new issue in full. For immediate access to the issue, click here to subscribe to the magazine for 20% off, or follow the links below to read what you can.

Here’s what you’ll find in issue 35:

plus literature from Jenny Erpenbeck and Yousri Alghoul
translated by Kurt Beals and Graham Liddell

And in the symposium, you’ll find:
plus a conversation with Shane McCrae on hell, innocence and self-knowledge
and a survey of photojournalists on capturing violence
as well as a note from The Editors on issue 35

We hope you’ll enjoy the new issue!

Sincerely,
The Editors
