The most popular conservative figures often thrive on a sense of grievance, the idea that they’re at risk of persecution for expressing their beliefs by the supposedly dominant “woke.” Katie Miller, former Trump staffer and wife of Stephen Miller, used this tactic to launch her new podcast last month, claiming that “there isn’t a place for conservative women to gather online.”
…Except, as senior correspondent Constance Grady argues, this isn’t really true. From Ballerina Farm to Candace Owens, the media ecosystem that exists for right-leaning women right now is pretty robust. She argues that the people making the internet a more complicated place for conservative women are, in fact, conservatives. Between MAGA bros extolling the hotness of white, blonde women and “trad” influencers promoting purity culture, conservative media is pushing its women in two different directions. And they both lead back to the same oppressive place.
