Hi readers, we’re stepping away from our usual format tonight with a short note. On Wednesday afternoon, right-wing activist and podcaster Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at a political event hosted by Utah Valley University.
Kirk, 31, was the co-founder of right-wing youth group Turning Point USA and an enormously influential figure in the conservative movement. In a post to Truth Social announcing Kirk’s death, President Donald Trump wrote, “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.” Nothing is known about Kirk’s shooter as of this writing, but his death is certain to have major implications for US politics; Vox will have more coverage soon. We’ll be back in your inboxes tomorrow. |
