It’s that time again where I update you about what’s happening in the world of queer books across the internet. First up, we have the very exciting news that the movie rights to Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters have been sold! Then I have a news story about a group fighting book bans in Florida. Plus, some queer comics and manga that are collecting awards. I could resist adding in some more links to interesting queer books lists, reviews, and interviews, too. All Access members can also find a list of 30 new queer books out this week at the end of this post, including some perfect queer reads for Halloween season. (It’s basically Halloween, right?) Detransition, Baby is Being Adapted Into a Movie![]() Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters may be the most popular trans book ever written, and now it’s being adapted for the big screen. The rights have been acquired by Tommy Dorfman’s Good Girl Productions , which is also working on an adaptation of Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell.
Tommy Dorfman says, “When I read Detransition, Baby, Torrey Peters’ story instantly resonated with me. The novel is smart, accessible, and filled with complex characters and plot lines never explored on screen. And like all the greatest stories, the story finds universality in its specificity.” It’s too early for any details about casting or the release date, but Kevin Cotter will be producing alongside Good Girl Productions. The movie rights being purchased doesn’t guarantee the movie will actually get made, but I’m cautiously optimistic! Florida Freedom to Read Project Fights Back Against LGBTQ+ Book Bans![]() The Florida Department of Education has ordered 55 books to be removed from all Florida public school libraries’ shelves. This includes many LGBTQ+ books, like This Book Is Gay by Juno Dawson and All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson. The Florida Freedom to Read Project is fighting back , urging students, parents, and teachers to contact the state board of education and let them know they don’t support the ban. Ali Velshi, host of The Velshi Banned Book Club said, “Many of the arguments made against This Book is Gay center around antiquated views of gender expression and sexuality, but they’re also made in bad faith, including labeling this book as ‘inappropriate.’ For a certain age group, this book is inappropriate. This book is not for young children — which is why it is not written for or marketed to them… [nor are supporters of the book] intending for it to be used to teach young children.
Sending our young people, regardless of sexual orientation, into the world without a comprehensive understanding of how to prevent sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy is a huge problem. Sending our young people into the world without a conversation about who exactly they are is nothing short of a crisis.” Queer Comics are Collecting AwardsThe Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All, Volume 1 by Sumiko Arai and translated by Ajani Oloye won Best New Manga at the 2025 American Manga Awards! ![]() The 2025 Harvey Awards nominees have also been announced, and there are quite a few queer comics included!
