Greetings from Lydon HQ, where London is doing that quintessentially autumn thing of being sunny one minute, then slashing down the next. I've got my jumpers down from the loft and I'm getting prepared, because this season is all about layers, innit? Which is what I hope my editor reckons my upcoming book has when it wings its way back to me this weekend. I always take a deep breath and close my eyes before I click on her email. She's never mean, but the feeling of being graded never goes away! Will this one come back with minimal red pen all over it? So long as I'm not called to her office, I hope it might be okay... Five Things From My Week:
Pre-Order Not Part Of The Plan! (Now including signed paperback): Enemies-to-lovers second-chance romance? If that sounds like your bag, click to order your ebook or paperback or signed paperback! What am I reading? I finally finished Like A Power Play by Elle Sprinkle and I loved it. I also rocketed through Katriona O'Sullivan's memoir Poor which is a beautifully written and hugely compelling read. (Thanks to Aoife for the rec.) You can check out my review of Like A Power Play together with my longer list of recommended queer reads by clicking here. Would you write me a review on my web shop? For any book of mine you've read. Reviews are important to new readers who might take a chance on me. Also, they make my shop look like a proper grown-up shop, which I very much like! New to my books? If that's you, hello! Also, you're in luck: I created a special page on my website so you don't feel lost. I have 27 novels to dive into. Go here for your next sapphic read! Last time's question: Last time I asked: what's your favourite place to read? What's the strangest place you've read? Thanks so much for all your answers - and there were a slew of them! Here are a select few... Robin says: "My favorite place to read is in my easy chair in the living room or on my deck poolside." Cerise says: "Weirdest place I've read: when I was in third grade, we moved to a new house. I bought a box of Junior Mints and climbed onto the shelf above the hangers in my closet to read and eat candy. Very satisfying for an eight-year-old." Cathy says: "My favorite place to read is my big comfy chair in my living room by the fireplace. If I can convince a dog to cuddle up with me, that's a bonus. The strangest place was in the engine control room on a ship. I used to work midnight to 8am shifts, so I had a lot of time to read!" Shula says: "I love reading in bed, the only problem is when you get a book that’s so good you’re awake until 4am finishing it, and you have to get up in the morning. That’s how I finished The Princess Match. You reach a point where you just can’t stop! Not sure about the weirdest place, but reading a sex scene in a doctors waiting room can make me blush!" Jessica says: "I read EVERYWHERE! While I have a shitload of paper books, phones are the best and worst thing to ever happen. It's great because I don't feel the crushing boredom I always felt growing up when I had to wait for something. Now I read in lines, the doctor's office, car rides, sports events, the shower. If I'm sitting somewhere, I'm reading." Leah says: "I live in SW Florida, so my favorite place to read is on a float in my pool. The oddest place I’ve read - last week in the dugout while I was waiting for my turn to kick at my team's opening kickball game." Yvonne says: "When I was a kid I had a favorite ancient walnut tree with the best fitting horizontal branch that made a great reading spot. Now, I read everywhere on my devices, or in my rocking chair." Carmen says: "I’m audiobook obsessed and find it hilarious when a spicy scene comes up and there are others around going about their business." Anne says: "My most memorable reading experience was on some friends' catamaran, motoring off the coast of Greece. Lying on deck, miles from anywhere, I finished my book on my Kindle and immediately purchased the sequel! That seemed to me like the ultimate upside of technology. Pity they stopped that and now you need wifi." This week's question: Mary sent an email this week, and told me she was re-reading (via audio) my books Nothing To Lose and Just Kiss Her while she got her steps in. It got me thinking: are you a re-reader? With so many new books, why do you re-read? Different format, or just because you loved the story? And if you do, what book have you re-read the most? Hit reply and tell me. I'd love to know! That's it from me. This weekend, I'm off to see my mum tomorrow, before dinner with my sister. Then on Sunday, my friend and I are off to watch Spurs Women vs Brighton. Will we make it five wins? Eyes, fingers, toes all crossed! Whatever you're doing, don't forget to pre-order my new book, watch all the football, and only read books that make your heart sing. Until next time, thanks for your support & happy reading! Love, Clare. xxx ps - Don't forget to hit reply and tell me if you re-read books and why. I'd love to know! pps - Pre-order my upcoming romance, Not Part Of The Plan, by clicking here!
