Dear friends,

Lillian Leibovich and Rich Proulx bring us a timely, 4/5 difficulty puzzle called "Home Visits" this week. Fun coupla constructors and a lovely puzzle.

Meanwhile, the AVCX is in the midst of our WINTER SUBSCRIPTION DRIVE. We figured we would brag about some of what we've done this year. If you like what we do, we'd love for you to spread the word about us -- to your friends, or on any sort of platform. We do need to hustle, since we have neither advertising budget nor patron, other than our wonderful solvers.

-Lil AVC X, who make our midi puzzles, do a ton of mentoring work. They added seven new constructors this year, and mentored them all. Each constructor made 4-6 puzzles. Lil ran 78 puzzles total, and they were tremendous and often genre-bending

-Trivia has two new editors, T.J. and Karen, who took over from feature creator Aimee Lucido. They've run 20 trivia puzzles (including contests) this year, including 8 from new authors. 'When the theme clicked I was so mad in the best way,' one solver wrote in about a particularly tricky offering.

-Classic, as ever, ran a puzzle every single week of the year. We ran debuts; work by young constructors and veterans alike; Beastie Boys themes; extremely x-rated stuff; father-daughter collabs; and pathbreaking visual themes. We tried to break the form and to have fun and support one another in the process.

-AVCX + launched a brand-new series of variety puzzles, featuring both well-known variety types and some completely original concepts. It's the only venue with open submissions for variety puzzles. Each puzzle in the series is also a contest, and they've been averaging ~300 contest entries per puzzle. Here's their spec sheet btw. They also continue to be one of the only venues running exclusively themeless U.S.-style crosswords.

-AVCX Cryptics continues to help keep the form alive for Americans, and periodically runs mini cryptics, which make the form accessible to new solvers, and also enable the editors to mentor newer constructors, as cryptic editing is labor-intensive. They published a 15-year-old constructor this year!

We hope you've liked what AVCX produced this year, and that you're willing to help us keep the features alive by telling your friends. Yrs,
Ben and the expanded AVCX crew
