Welcome to The Logoff: Hi readers, happy Halloween! No tricks here — today we are logging off with just a brief note.
It’s rarely a slow news day under the Trump administration, but the biggest story we have been watching, the approaching November 1 expiry of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, or food stamps, may be on hold. A judge ruled this afternoon that the Trump administration must keep food assistance flowing using contingency funding, potentially heading off the worst crisis.
There will still be at least a small interruption in benefits, affecting almost 42 million Americans, as the contingency funds are dispersed; and there are real questions about whether the Trump administration will comply with the court order. If they don’t, we’ll be in your inbox to tell you about it — but we also want to avoid speculating and tell you only when there is concrete news coming out of the administration. So for now, have a suitably spooky Halloween and a great weekend.
