Book Notification Newsletter: October 2025 Recap

Hi everyone. Welcome to the October 2025 Recap! [Read Online]
At Book Notification, we deeply respect authors – especially authors who have written and published their first book. The world has changed, and we know how much more difficult it is these days. Writing and publishing the book is only half the battle; now they have to actually market the book, and this is easily the toughest challenge for new authors these days.
So we do what we can to help out. If a new James Patterson or Lee Child book is coming out, one of those days where our “Daily New Book Releases” post is going to get more attention than normal, we always try to add a debut author into the featured three, just to give them that little extra boost and exposure, and help celebrate their accomplishment.
We’re taking that a step further with a new monthly post: listing all new books releasing by debut authors, and giving special focus to some of them. You can see this month’s Favourite Debut Books post. And we will be sure to highlight many of these authors across our social media channels each month.
One big project we started at the tail end of October is internally categorizing authors by genre, sub-genre, and micro-genre.
This was something we didn’t have planned until late 2026, but it all spawned from a discussion about how to improve the Related Authors section on each author’s page on Book Notification. When we launched that last year, we thought we had figured out a good formula for displaying accurate recommendations. Unfortunately, we were seeing the same authors show up time and time again on the majority of authors pages.
We spent some time in early October attempting to finesse it but quickly realized that the only solutions were to remove it entirely, or to prioritize author categorization. We decided to go with the latter as it’s proven to be a popular feature.
We plan to launch the new Related Authors system in the second half of November.
The exciting thing about this data is it isn’t just reserved for “related authors”; it opens up various avenues that we have always planned to explore, such as author recommendations, discovering new books and authors to read, various statistic and content articles such as “Top 50 Scandinavian Noir Authors” etc.
With 90,000 authors to go through and counting, this isn’t something that will be complete overnight but it’s going to open up a lot of doors for some really cool features at Book Notification.
Until the next chapter,
Graeme

Site Improvements & Updates
Book Manage Redesign: We mentioned this in the Tuesday e-mail, but if you missed it, we did a complete overhaul of the Book Manage popup, adding “Currently Reading” and “Paused” statuses. You can read the blog post for all the information about this change.
Quotes: We launched our Quotes Hub last month, which currently features Autumn / Fall quotes and Halloween quotes. We will be filling this up with more categories over the coming months, and adding to the existing categories. This idea all stemmed from one of our staff receiving a card at their wedding, with a quote from a book inside it. We loved the idea, and are going to be creating sections for weddings, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.
See Recently Released Books by Authors You Follow: By user request, you can now access previous months on your personal calendar. The “Upcoming Books” list will now update to show you all of the books released in that month. If you fall behind on keeping up to date, you’ll be able to see what books were released during that period.
Print/Export All “My Library” Pages: Every section within My Library now offers the ability to export or print the list, be it followed authors, the reading challenge, or your want to read list.
Playlists: We’ve added a few more book-related playlists and are continuing to expand that feature.
Book Clubs: We added more celebrity book clubs last month by request. We now have 23 book club listings.

We will give away ten $25 USD gift cards to random people who have submitted a comment from the day this newsletter was published, up until the beginning of the next newsletter. Each comment earns you an entry (or ‘ticket’) into the draw, and you can enter and win multiple times so comment as often as you’d like!

The comment form is at the bottom of every author’s page, under the title “Author Discussion”.
