Xi’s backdoor crack: Chinese President Xi Jinping cracked a rare joke and a laugh as he gifted his South Korean counterpart two Xiaomi phones built with Korean displays: “check if there’s a backdoor,” he quipped.

Setting rare earths free: After trade talks between Xi and Trump, China has agreed to issue general licenses for exports of rare earths, gallium, germanium, antimony and graphite “for the benefit of US end users and their suppliers around the world,” according to the White House.

AI fears: Adobe investors worry that AI companies are creating tools that will lure marketers, filmmakers and arts professionals away from Adobe’s market leading software.

Disney-free YouTube TV: Disagreement between Google and Disney over the value of serving marquee channels like ABC and ESPN on the cable replacement YouTube TV service has led to their outright removal. Disney, in making the move, argued its slate of live sports programming is one of the biggest attractions for YouTube TV.

French telecom giant Orange has agreed to buy out the remaining stake in its Spanish joint venture MasOrange for $4.9 billion, giving it sole ownership of a business in its second-largest European market. Orange is proposing to buy the remaining 50% in the joint venture from a group of private equity firms including KKR & Co.
