Welcome to The Logoff: Hi readers, today we are logging off. 

One of the day’s biggest stories is the prospect of unprecedented flight cuts at major airlines across the country, scheduled to begin tomorrow. The cuts, the Trump administration says, are a needed relief valve for a system struggling through what is now the longest government shutdown of all time. 

For now, though, their exact scope and impact is unclear, so we won’t take up any more of your time. Have a great evening!

Today’s going to be a day when we take the “log off” part of this newsletter more literally. My colleague Adam Clark Estes recently wrote about the Month Offline project, which is exactly what it sounds like: an initiative encouraging people to switch to an old-school flip phone for a month and reconnect with the world around them. 

If that sounds a little bit too cold turkey for you, there are other options too: Adam writes about the Brick device, which adds a physical component to unlocking apps on your phone (I just recently got one too — so far, so good). Whatever works best for you, though, the overall point holds: Getting off your phone is pretty great, and there are more tools than ever to help you do it.
