Welcome to The Logoff: Hi readers, today we are logging off. The big news of the day is not exactly a Trump administration story, though it’s closely related. Specifically, the government shutdown appears to be on a glide path toward resolution as of late Sunday night, after eight Democratic senators joined the GOP to advance a deal that would end the 41-day standoff.
The deal does not include the Affordable Care Act subsidies that Democrats framed as their principal demand, but it comes as the pain of the shutdown — between widespread flight cancellations, government workers going without pay, and the administration’s attempts to block full food assistance benefits — was growing increasingly acute.
The Logoff will be off on Tuesday for Veterans Day, but we’ll see you back here on Wednesday. Have a great evening! |
