Recently, when I went to a family wedding in Mexico City, we couldn't stop talking about water. There's a lot of resentment around tourists' water usage at fancy hotels when Mexico's capital was inching closer and closer to Day Zero — or when a city runs out of drinking water for its population (usually because of a drought).
You may have also heard of something similar happening in Cape Town, South Africa. Now there's a third major capital staring down a water crisis: Tehran, Iran. Future Perfect fellow Shayna Korol thought it was interesting that the mayor of Tehran posited a potential solution: relocation. Yep. That's right. Now, shouldn't we all be concerned? While it may be unlikely Iran's capital actually does it, Shayna reports, the warning is crystal clear. Water crises are our new norm.
