Finally, it's not a secret anymore: The Best of the Year is here! We did a lot of listening to get to this moment, and my fellow editors and I are proud to announce 2025's top listens. I always appreciate the sense of closure after we reveal the Best of the Year. With all that's happened in the past 12 months (good and bad), this year's best books and other listening can help us distill and process. It's time to reflect, take a break, and sink into whatever audio entertainment your holiday heart desires—and now you have a new list of 135 well-vetted and well-loved listens to choose from.

Can you guess the best science fiction and fantasy listens of 2025? Here are some hints: There’s a mythology about two sisters, a dark-academia fantasy from the perspective of the teachers, and an irreverent sci-fi about space colonization. Any ideas? See if you got any of them!

A memorable book about unrememberable things
Did you ever get into creepypastas, those scary stories on the internet from the early 2000s? That's the space where qntm began There Is No Antimemetics Division, a story about a fictional world that has antagonistic entities that can't be remembered—so there's no way to really fight them. It might be a hard concept to grasp (which is the point!), but trust that you'll be mesmerized either way. Editor Emily Cox interviewed qntm about the origins behind his mind-boggler, which in some ways is not so far off from the world we live in today.

It’s not quite last-minute gifting time, but I just want you to keep this in your back pocket: Audible is an instant (no shipping!), thoughtful, and substantive gift. You can give people a few months of membership so they can enjoy the service as a whole, or send them a specific book you think they'll like (...or that you want them to like). Check out our gift guide to learn more and to jog your brain on titles you might like to share with a loved one this holiday season.
