Dear Reader, Every year, Caroline and I spend thousands of hours reading across the widest range of articles to bring you five pieces each day that we think are worth your time. We hope you’ll hate at least one of them. At The Browser, we believe it’s far too easy for people to fall into a filter bubble; to only read things that pander to their pre-conceived notions. Of course this is true about politics, but it’s equally true about every other topic: from food to literature to history, we all swim in water so deep we don’t notice it, and we could all use an occasional challenge to our thinking. A Browser selection doesn’t mean our editors agree with a given point – how could it?, when many of the pieces we select disagree with each other. But we believe that both ourselves and our readers are better for having read them and considered them, even if (inevitably) we will each reject some of them. While we mostly hope to share writing you’ll love, we also hope to share some writing you dislike. We like to think that’s a benefit of The Browser, a true sign you’re reading beyond your bubble. So this Christmas, treat yourself or your loved ones to the greatest present of all: give yourself writing you dislike. As a paid subscriber, you’ll get recommendations for five articles, a podcast and video on the daily Browser, plus special editions on the weekends. You can sign up for a subscription here, or give The Browser here (it’s the stocking-stuffer that won’t get put at the back of the closet). From all of us at The Browser, wishing you a very happy Christmas, Kaamya
