Not to brag, but I’ve already listened to four books in 2026—and we’re still in month one. While I don’t know that I’ll be able to keep up this pace, it does bode well for the year to come. What’s better than that urge to take the long way home or to stay up an extra hour (or two) because the story you’re listening to is just that good? It’s like nothing else—an affliction I’m always happy to endure, and one I hope to pass on to others. ✨

I’m a sucker for road-trip tales and family drama, so my personal pick for January makes perfect sense. The Flightless Birds of New Hope tells the story of three grieving siblings who embark on a cross-country adventure to find their dead parents’ escaped cockatoo named Coco. It’s delightful. Now, my fellow editors have varying tastes, so if you’re looking for something a little lighter, even funnier, or a lot scarier, we’ve got you covered.

The extraordinary Jessie Buckley
Amid her well-deserved award nominations and wins for her role as Agnes Shakespeare in the film adaptation of Hamnet, Jessie Buckley has become one to watch (and listen to). After going down a rabbit hole to find her past movies and audiobook performances, I’m making my way through the 13 titles I found on Audible—a mix of solo narrations and multi-cast ensembles. From O’Farrell, to Dickens, to Tóibín, Jessie Buckley brings her voice to both classics and modern literature, and what a voice she has!
