Five Things AI: Trump, Meta, Services Wave, Reporting Tool, HollywoodAnother truly fascinating week in AI. Read on.Hello and welcome back to Five Things AI! We have a lot to unpack this week, so let’s dive right in! First, obviously the election in the US will have an enormous impact on AI, given the fact that Elon Musk has a huge influence on Donald Trump, who probably doesn’t have any understanding of a possible framework for AI regulation. Then, we’ll take a closer look at Meta and which role AI plays in their business model. It seems that this fall everybody is talking about AI Agents and AI Services, so let’s have a look at how one of the co-founders of Palantir looks at this wave of AI Services and its impact on the industry. Then we explore how the New York Times is using AI for reporting, a subject that is very dear to my heart. I started investing in AI startups back in 2015 with the explicit goal to create better workflows for publishers. Most startups didn’t get very far as the resistance to AI was huge back then. It’s great to see what’s possible now and how that improves the daily work. Lastly, let’s look at how AI is changing Hollywood. We’ll see it soon in the new Tom Hanks movie. I’m intrigued. Read on! What Trump’s victory could mean for AI regulationMost likely Trump will replace Biden’s AI Executive Order with something new that provides less regulation. Trump has been vague on this, but let’s assume that Musk wants less regulation and Trump will act accordingly. Meta’s AI Abundance“AI takes abundance to infinity, and Meta is the purest play of all.” - this is a fascinating look at how AI is being used at Meta and it reaches far beyond LLama. The AI Services Wave: Lessons from Palantir in The New Age of AI“It’s impossible to predict where the ladder of rapid AI advancement leads. Implicitly, we’re betting that AGI is not simply going to “figure everything out.” If it does, we’ll all get rich (or go extinct). But even if the evolution of AI plateaued today, there would still be enormous value to unlock! The financial and societal implications of bringing radical efficiency to $2T in service wages are inspiring. Beyond additional GDP growth, more efficient labor markets, and doubled or tripled productivity in some sectors, workers will be free to practice their true skills, and learn new ones, as automation eliminates more rote tasks and processes.” - Service as a Software will certainly be huge. Make sure to register for AI.SUMMIT 2024 in Hamburg! Get your tickets now: I’ll see you there! How The New York Times is using generative AI as a reporting toolApart from the stupid image with the robot sitting at the desk, this is a really good article that shows what’s possible when AI is being used for tasks that used to be done by humans. It frees up so much time for more useful things to do. What if A.I. Is Actually Good for Hollywood?I don’t think there should be any doubt about the benefits of AI for Hollywood. It will unleash more creativity and also improve the time necessary for producing great movies. This is such a big new wave and it will develop its full potential in the next few years.
