LIVE: Abney Park's most loved Steampunk Songs.

We asked fans what the theme to this online live concert should be, and the vast majority of votes came in for both "Steampunk!" and "Dark Christmas!" So, not wanting to let anyone down, we are doing both!

DARK CHRISTMAS:

More than two decades ago, late one Christmas Eve, me and Kristina set about doing a cover of Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. Since we never really intended to do anything with it, we went crazy, with low-rider-esque big beats, and 80's turntablism-style record scratching. The result was absolutely nuts, and became a strangely popular track all over the world. There are folks to this day that think of Abney Park purely as "that band that did the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies. (which I almost named "Dance of the Sugar Plum Low Riders!")

After that, we created a whole album of these darker Christmas covers...and as the years went by, every decade or so we'd release another Christmas album, each time morphing and distorting otherwise sugary Christmas songs into our dark and twisted versions. 

STEAMPUNK MUSIC

Abney Park pioneered steampunk music in the early 2000s, and has won notoriety all over the world as the quintessential steampunk band. With this online concert, we've been themeing each show, one might be based on our early gothic roots, another might be recreating a classic Abney Park album, and yet another might be all pirate shanties. 

With this show we want to focus on our most classic Steampunk songs. Songs like Airship Pirates, and Building Steam, and Steampunk Revolution. 

So mixing these two, our Dark Christmas music, and our classic Steampunk songs, seemed a perfect fit for a concert in the dark of December.
