I’ve already shared my picks for the most-anticipated queer books of 2025 as well as the most-anticipated queer books of 2025 according to all the lists, but what about the queer books you are most anticipating? In December, I sent out a
survey
asking, among other things, which queer books you’re most anticipating in 2025—and you delivered! You named more than a hundred new queer books out this year you’re looking forward to, and I’ve gathered the most popular choices here.
Many of these books overlap with my picks, but there are also some differences. There was a clear winner for the overall most anticipated title, which was mentioned more than twice as often as any other book. A few other titles were mentioned a handful of times, and the majority of books were named by just one or two people. Because of that divide, I have included five honorable mentions as well as the top four picks.
One title that came up several times but I left off this list is Father Material by Alexis Hall because, unfortunately, the release date has been pushed to 2026. Alexis Hall does have another queer romance out in 2025, though: Audrey Lane Stirs the Pot
(Winner Bakes All #3), which comes out in December.
Without further ado, here are your most anticipated queer books out in 2025! If you want to see the full list of every book named by survey respondents, I have a link to that spreadsheet at the end for All Access members, as well as a list of 19 new queer books out this week.
I think the only reason this wasn’t named by more people is that you haven’t heard about it yet! Cemetery Boys
, a fantasy book about a trans brujo who accidentally summons the wrong ghost, is one of the most popular queer YA books out there, and it’s getting a sequel in 2025! I really can’t describe the plot of this one without spoiling book one, but suffice it to say it follows the characters you loved from book one as well as a nonbinary brujx Ángel who uses “ruthless methods” to help the dead move on.
This is one I’ve been eagerly anticipating since it was announced, so I’m glad to see it’s already on your collective radar. From the author of Summer Fun comes a story about three queer teens in the ’90s who make a video game together called Saga of the Sorceress
. Eighteen years later, they haven’t spoken in many years, and they’re still the only ones who know about this unfinished game. Unbeknownst to them, they’re also all living in or around Brooklyn, and they’ve never stopped thinking about Saga of the Sorceress.
Here’s another one on my personal most anticipated list! It follows Six and Green, two Asian American trans women who are dating. Together, they are competing in the men’s pro indoor volleyball league—but on rival teams. They travel around the world to compete, broadcasting their relationship to parasocial fans, but when their teams face off against each other in the championship, they also face a P.R. crisis that could blow up their reputations. This is an “outrageous and deeply serious satire,” and I can’t wait to read it!
This is also one of Jessica Pryde’s most anticipated romances of 2025, so I’ll let her take it from here: “This breakout contemporary romance author is giving us their first Regency romance, and it’s hella exciting! A young lord has to get married, but he has a big secret. The new valet he takes on also might have his own secret? I love mess! And I love queer authors approaching historical romance, especially Regency, in ways that are new and full of hope for our queer brethren in times before.”
From the author of the Sidekick Squad series,
Clash of Steel
, and more comes a fantasy YA book about two teen girls from different universes who fall in love in a magical coffee shop. Brenda is from our universe and has a “19-step plan to save the world through science.” Kat is the Chosen One in her universe and is trying to run away from her destiny. As their universes collide, they’ll have to find a way to save them both—and go on a second date. This looks so fun!
Jasmine Guillory is a beloved romance author best known for her The Wedding Date
series, and now she has an F/F romance coming out! Avery is almost 30, newly single, and ready to start casually dating, especially women. The only problem is that she doesn’t have a lot of confidence in her romantic life. Taylor, on the other hand, is a heartbreaker who has plenty of casual romantic experience. She offers to tutor Avery in the art of flirting. She needs the distraction, because she just took up her best friend on a bet that she can’t go two months without sleeping together. But as much as Avery and Taylor assure their friends this arrangement isn’t serious, Taylor is beginning to worry that she’s ruining the best chance she’s ever had at a real relationship.
Hockey romance was extremely popular in 2024, and it looks like that trend is continuing into 2025! The Shots You Take is about Riley and Adam, who once were teammates and best friends with benefits. Ten years ago, though, Riley moved back to his small Nova Scotia hometown and left that relationship and his hockey career behind him. When tragedy strikes, Adam—now a hockey superstar—reappears in his life to help, and even after all these years, their chemistry is undeniable.
The author of Mistakes Were Made,
Something to Talk About, and
Cleat Cute
is back with a new queer romance, this time with a nonbinary love interest! Elsie has been engaged to her college boyfriend for a year when she learns he’s planned their wedding and honeymoon, and it’s happening in a week. Surprise! That’s the wake-up call she needed to realize she never wanted this marriage, and now she’s off to that non-refundable Caribbean honeymoon with her best friend, Ginny. Ginny has been in love with her for more than a decade, and they make Elsie a deal to encourage her to speak up for herself more: for this week, Elsie can have anything she asks for. Ginny just wasn’t expecting Elsie to ask for them. As you’d expect from that magnificent cover, this one is spicy!
V. E. Schwab is the bestselling author of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, the
Shades of Magic
series, and many others. In her Instagram announcement for the book, she said, “The toxic lesbian vampires are coming,” and that’s enough to sell me on it. She also says this book is “a reckoning — both with myself and with my work” and that it’s a departure from trying to make herself and her stories “smaller, more palatable.” I can’t wait to see what that means. This follows three women in different time periods and locations—1530s Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1830s London, and 2019 Boston—whose immortal lives become intertwined.
And those are nine of your most anticipated queer books of 2025! If you want to see the full spreadsheet with everyone’s responses, I have a link to that spreadsheet below for All Access members as well as a list of new queer books out this week, including The Broposal by Sonora Reyes and
Trans and Disabled: An Anthology of Identities and Experiences edited by Alex Iantaffi.
