As many of you know, my daughter, Isabella Brown (daughter of Robert and Kristina from Abney Park), was in a serious car accident, coming home from college to run cameras at an Abney Park concert. She was rear-ended on the freeway at 60 miles per hour. It spun her car around three times, causing it to slam into the median barrier multiple times.
This has left her and her passengers with very serious concussions. They are locked up at home in dark rooms, wearing sunglasses, and have been now for weeks. Not able to be online, watch TV, read, attend college, or anything else.
So far:
• She’s lost her car.
• She’s had to quit college (she was an engineering major).
• She can’t play music (she plays bass and piano).
• She can’t look at any screen (TV, computer, phone).
• She’s lost whatever money we’ve spent on this college this year.
• She has had to give up aerials (she was competing in Vegas this year).
One fall now could give her permanent brain damage.
Basically, everything that defined her she has lost. And it’s still uncertain when, or even if, she can go back to any or all of those things.
We had hoped the concussion would be a mild one. It has not been. She and her passengers have all been pulled out of college, as looking at screens—and even just hard thinking—are causing severe migraines.
She was hit by an uninsured motorist going at least 100 miles an hour. The hit-and-run driver is poor, so no lawyers will take the case (I called at least 6 lawyers). Our insurance, though expensive at over $500 a month, has told us we are not covered for this particular set of circumstances. That’s how they get you.
Bills are starting to add up, and drain whatever savings we had. Bills for doctors, ER visits, therapists, neurologists, and psychologists are all draining us to nearly nothing. Being a family of musicians and artists, we were never sitting on huge savings. We get by, but this is crushing.
We pay for our life, and for our family, with ticket sales to our streaming concerts, and Patreon. We’ve got another show coming up in a couple weeks. Please consider joining our Patreon, or getting tickets, we could really use it.
