Defector's Politics Coverage Straightforwardly Tells The Truth

What should Defector’s politics coverage look like? That’s a question I ask myself frequently. It isn’t an easy one to answer, for many of the same reasons that it isn't easy to engage with politics in general: The problems are big, vicious, and often arrive too quickly for it to feel like there’s anything useful to be said about them.

To help make sense of things, I seek out writers who explain and contextualize politics in clear, precise language. That’s what I try to publish at Defector. This sometimes feels like a low bar to clear, but the confused and deranging coverage on offer elsewhere reminds me that there is real value in straightforwardly telling the truth.

To show you what this looks like in practice, I’ve unlocked each of the posts linked in this email. As a subscriber, you’ll get to read all of this excellent work, and you’ll enable us to do more of it, like our ongoing interview series with civil servants fired by DOGE.

Help us help you make sense of the world. For just one more week, you can try a month of Defector for just 98 cents:
