the weather is getting warmer, the economic climate is getting scarier, my favorite batman and nikon coolpix spokesman died, and my candle and art practice is progressing really well. life is beautiful and ugly and complex and unfair. to find hope in an ugly time, i turn to beautiful words - this month rereading james baldwin's the fire next time from the 1960s:

"and all this is happening in the richest and freest country in the world, and in the middle of the twentieth century. the subtle and deadly change of heart that might occur in you would be involved with the realization that a civilization is not destroyed by wicked people; it is not necessary that people be wicked but only that they be spineless."

i know they say we are all merely dots on a small rock floating through space, but holy shit there's a whole lot of joy and terror that us small dots on a small rock floating through space can generate. here's to another month of trying to find and create more joy and maintain integrity - and spine.

what’s new 🆕

• in last month's newsletter, i asked if it was worth it to make an rss-to-email list for my blog posts and a few of you said yes. when jenn nation asks, i listen. sign up to get my live laugh blogs straight to your inbox. of course, there's still rss for those of us with taste and grays.
• i joined the codédex community for a q&a and they turned it into a podcast episode so you all can listen.
• on the blog: i continued with my weekly retros which document my week and the things online and offline that i enjoyed. i also wrote about markers and making matchboxes.

coming up 🔜

• once my fresh set of scented candles are done curing in about a week, bugs rock listings will be going live. these are small handmade batches, so they may go fast so sign up for updates.
• there are a couple of april robot karaoke shows, one at LARPA in brooklyn next week (event page coming soon) and then jamie is going to be hosting in chicago, home of the bean.
