This queer ally is an English actor and model.
She was born on 25 August 1969 in Wiltshire, England, and raised primarily in Cambridgeshire. The youngest of four children, she spent three years of her childhood in Malta before attending school in Huntingdon.
In 1992, she graduated from the University of Sheffield with a B.A. (Hons) in English and Drama. She then joined a local theatre company in Edinburgh and later founded a community theatre company in Sheffield, before relocating to London to pursue her acting career.
In addition to her acting career, she has contributed articles to The Guardian, ELLE, The Big Issue, and DIVA Magazine, where she also served as a columnist for several years.
She holds an MA in Radio Production from Goldsmiths, University of London. She produced and edited the BBC Radio 4 documentary What We've Learnt About Grief, presented by Cariad Lloyd, and spent nearly three years producing Rachel’s Roving Reports for the weekly radio show Radio DIVA on Resonance FM, hosted by comedian Rosie Wilby and actress Heather Peace. She used to produce the weekly LGBTQIA+ podcast podDIVA.
She is best known for her roles as Helena Peabody in the Showtime series The L Word and Elizabeth Russell in the Oscar-nominated Bollywood epic Lagaan.
