In Russia, In 2017, on a midnight train from Saint Petersburg to Moscow. Kristina from Abney Park’s laptop died. The charging port had split from the motherboard, and the laptop's battery wouldn’t charge.
The band learned about this onstage, during sound check. There was 7% battery left, and no way to charge or fix it. All of Kristina's synthesizers were played through this laptop. All the drum tracks, and background orchestrations were on this laptop. Without it, could Abney Park even perform a show?
It was a sold out crowd of over 1,000 people. We were the only performers. Cancelling would financially have ruined the concert promoters, who spent thousands just to get us there, and rent the venue.
So Abney Park did something they’d never done before in the history of the Abney Park music, we improvise an entire acoustic set, And the result was stirring and intimate, void of bells and whistles and electronics.

| One of our motivations for doing an acoustic (unplugged) concert now is that Isabella, our daughter who runs the cameras for the shows, is still recovering from her major concussion.
